Prairie nomad

Prairie nomad
Searching for Eden
On a long trail
From one hole
To the next
Searching for Eden
As the world grows
On the dust of all the dead
Searching for a reason to continue
And an excuse to quit
Watching the light
Pore over the morning
Like it is a book
With all the answers
Sending a life
Learning to read its signs
Prairie Nomad
Searching for Eden
On a long trail
Over the dust of tears
Predators lurking under a moon
Vultures picking away
As two crows stare
On the limbs of a dead tree

I get it -- An apocalyptic theme of hope round the next bend in the road. And I also don't get it -- my granddaughter's name is Eden and therefore she keeps popping into my thoughts! I suppose this is just a reminder of how public poems are open to anyone's interpretation.

Neil. Eden,in this case, is a place not a person. But I can see how it could be read as a person...
