You can't make me happy
you can't make me disappear
You can't buy me happy
You can't buy me sincere
All that money in this delusional democracy
Speeding along the tollway to heaven
Reaching for that ever changing dream
Some just stop and quit
Selling papers between sips
Sweating for pennies at every red light
You can't buy me happy
You can't make me dis appear
Living in a delusional democracy
Righteous so it would appear
Reaching for heaven with one foot in hell
They call it smooth insanity
You can't make me happy
you can't make me disappear
You can't buy me happy
You can't buy me sincere
Every one has a story
Even that homeless man
Scratching out an existence
Selling news papers to people that can't read
Trying to keep his memories safe
In that paper box in the rain under the trees
As the light turns to green
The homeless man disappears
The memory box remains
You can't make me happy
you can't make me disappear
You can't buy me happy
You can't buy me sincere
The Toll has been paid
